West Virginia FILMmakers Festival
Filmmaker of the Year Award 2009

The West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year Award is given to the filmmaker whose most recent work or lifetime work has had the utmost impact on the WV film industry. The WVFF board of directors oversees the Filmmaker of the Year selection. The Nomination Committee consists of Pervious WV Filmmakers of the Year, WV Filmmakers Guild, Landmark Studio for the Arts Board, WVFF Board, and industry professionals from around the state to arrive at the broadest consensus possible. To become a member of the Filmmaker of the Year Nomination Committee submit your request and credentials to

Filmmaker of the Year Award nomination criteria:

  1. Filmmaker whose most recent work or lifetime work has had an utmost impact on
        the WV film industry.
  2. Nominees can be from any discipline of film making (Producer, Director, Writer,
        Actor, Etc.).
  3. Nominees should have a deep connection to WV, preferably film made in WV,
        WV native or resident.
  4. Not a requirement but should be able to attend the Festival.
  5. Being a member of this committee does not exclude a filmmaker from being
        nominated for the award.


    1. Having one vote is deemed incidental. One vote is not deemed enough influence on the over all out
        come of the award to be considered a conflict.
    2. We seek in put from industry leaders of film making. We foresee that some of these leaders will and 
        should be nominated for this award.

    Procedures
    1. To nominate a filmmaker summit the name, work to be considered for the award, and statement (less than 200 word) about the filmmaker. Include all information you deem will assist others on the nominating committee on making their vote. Submissions should be sent preferably by e-mail to filmmaker@wvfilmmakersfestival.org
    or my mail to

    Nominations are to be received by September 17, 2009.

    2. On or before September 19, 2008 a list of nominees will be posted on the web site www.wvfilmmakersfestival.org.

    3. All votes must include credentials (ie Filmmakers Guild, WVFF committee etc) and be emailed to
    vote@wvfilmmakersfestival.org

          or send to

          his or her choice of the nominees for filmmaker of the year by September 25, 2009.

          4. Confidentiality:
              Things that will be disclosed-
                         1. The nominations for filmmaker of the year and by whom.
                    2. The winner of the Award.
                    3. Only committee members may disclose whom they voted for.
                    4. Board members verify votes awarded to each filmmaker.
                    5. Verification of votes.The Landmark Studio for the Arts WVFF Committee  
                        validates votes and prepares a list of the top three filmmakers and who 
                        received the most votes.
