2010 West Virginia 
Filmmakers Festival held during the first weekend of October, 1-3, had the largest attendance since it began in 2000. Mari-Lynn Evans, a native of Braxton County, was named the 2010 West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year. On Sunday, October 3, she presented the world premiere of her newest film, “Coal Stories.” The West Virginia Filmmakers Festival is the state’s only film festival dedicated to the exhibition of films made by, for , and with West Virginia. The WVFF was held in conjunction with Sutton’s fall festival. In Lewisburg, the WVFF programmed an evening of short films on September 30th at the Lewis Theater. The mayor of Lewisburg was present for the event. He plans on working with supporting filmmaking in the area. Sutton screenings were held at Landmark Studio For The Arts
(401 Main Street, Sutton, WV)‎ and The Elk Theater (192 Main Street, Sutton, WV)‎.

The West Virginia Filmmakers Guild met on Saturday morning, electing officers. They also voted to make the festival a part of their organization with Patrick Felton as the new president of the festival, replacing co-founding president Kevin Carpenter. The Guild is already working on the 12th festival to be held the first weekend of October 2011.

WEST VIRGINIA FILMMAKER'S FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES OPENING NIGHT FILMS

Horror Films, Oscar-Nominated Short Highlight Weekend of WV Film.


Sutton, WV, - An evening of local horror films will kick off the 11th annual The West Virginia Filmmakers Festival On October 1 in Sutton, WV. The festival runs through the 13 at the Elk Theater and Landmark Studio For The Arts in Sutton WV. A full schedule will be forthcoming.

Highlights from this year's festival include:

·      WV Horror Double Feature and party (October 1 Elk Theater) Charleston native Eamon Hardiman's 1980s slasher homage Porkchop and Matt Walker's Martinsburg-shot Scarlet Rain screens at the historic Elk Theater. The Screenings are followed by an opening night party at the haunted Elk Hotel featuring food, music, and great company. Don't miss this night!

·      Toxic Soup (September 29 Glenville State, October 2, Landmark Studio) Rory Delaney's incendiary documentary traces the growing battle over contamination of water and air in WV and throughout the Mountain State. Join Delaney and his team of raconteurs as they exposes alleged neglect and malice to water supplies by some of the world's largest multinational and encounter a colorful cast of characters including Morgan Spurlock, Hillary Clinton, and even Jim Carey.

·      Shorts Program 2010 (October 2 Landmark Studio) Kim Spurlock's Student-Academy-Award (TM) -Nominated-Short Down in Number anchors an evening of extraordinary short films. Based on a true story, this Southern Gothic story follows a terminally ill coal miner as he seeks refuge for his Down Syndrome son. This promises to be one of our strongest progams in years.

Admission is $5.00 per screening or $15.00 dollar for a festival pass. Tickets will be available at the door.

Now in its eleventh year, the West Virginia Filmmaker's Festival is the state's only film festival dedicated to the exhibition of films made by, for ,and with West Virginia. The West Virginia Filmmakers Festival is sponsored by Cafe Cimeno, The Landmark Studio For The Arts, The Days Hotel - Flatwoods and The Elk Hostel.

The West Virginia FILMmakers Festival is now accepting entries for 2010. The festival will be held October 1-3 in Sutton, West Virginia. Categories include: Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Animation, Two Minute Horror, Two Minute, Ten Minute, Student.  (Feature 56+ minutes, Short 55 or less minutes)
